Out and About Caravans
About Out and About Caravans
Established by Chris Hayes in 2004, Langtoft-based Out and About Caravans service and repair caravans, motorhomes and their accessories. Originally what his wife Margaret described as a "man with a van," over the past 15 years Out and About Caravans has grown into a bustling workshop.
Business was steady for Out and About Caravans, but Chris saw the opportunity to take the company to another level by adding the repair of larger scale accessories, like levelling and air suspension units, to his offer. To do this he needed more advanced machinery, which meant it was time to invest.
How they got the grant
Margaret saw an advert for Grants4Growth on Facebook and contacted the team, and within an hour their grant application had begun. Margaret says: "We didn't want to be tied up with endless form filling - we've got a business to run! We needn't have worried though, as Grants4Growth was both simple and quick."
The company was offered a grant of £3,000, which Chris used towards the purchase of four independently standing hydraulic lifts, to raise caravans and motorhomes and simplify the repair process. Although the business was successful before the grant, the new lifts have been a turning point for Out and About Caravans. The company's turnover has more than doubled, and they have extended their team from two people to five.
"We were surprised by how fast the turn-around was," Margaret said. "I thought there would be more red tape, but it was hassle-free and couldn't have been easier."
In the future, Out and About Caravans hope to continue to grow, and are already eyeing up a bigger unit for the business. They also hope to double their turnover again this year, or as Margaret says: "We are still growing - so let's see how it goes!"
